How do I know my guy is the one for me? One reason is all the things we have in common. A non-exhaustive list includes:
1. Favorite Number- this is the top of the list because last year when I talked to one of my monthly dates I told him I had a favorite number and he proceeded to laugh at me and tell me how utterly ridiculous he thought it was. But when the graduate shared his favorite number, I was awestruck because it was the same as mine.
2. The numbers game- #2 goes hand-in-hand with #1 because its a mental game I play all the time. Whenever I get something with numbers on it, I look to see what relationship it has with my favorite number and as it turns out, he does it too. The other week, he remarked aloud how to derive our favorite number from the number series of our hotel room and I was shocked to silence. I didn't even tell him I do the same thing because it was just too uncanny.
3. Realistic outlook on pet names- other than babe, sweeties, sweetheart, sweets, baby, dear and dearheart, no other pet name will be uttered between the two of us. We have certain nicknames we've coined for each other that we use in front of other people, but we agreed that neither of us will use name for the other that will make the other or anyone who overhears us want to throw up.
4. Shoes- but not in the "fabulous" type of way. He has as much as a fascination with shoes-mostly tennis shoes- as I do. I don't have to feel bad about going to DSW to shop because he goes off to his section for as long as I do. I only feel bad when I give up my DSW rewards to him (but to be fair, I do get his points when he buys shoes using my account number so I shouldn't complain too much).
5. Volunteering- I thought I was busy and took on too many projects until I encountered the graduate. His calendar stays just as busy as mine and I find myself having to tell him the same thing people have told me for years. The good thing is that we both understand the reasons behind our wanting to give back so we support each other but also make sure the other isn't being taken advantage of by the recipients of our kindness.
6. Humor- we both have the same sense of humor and love to clown each other and other people. Going shopping (don't worry not that kind of shopping) or anywhere with him is fun because he people watches and laughs just as much as I do. We call or text each other when we see anything absurd that we know the other will get a kick out of.
These are just a few things I've noticed we have in common which make our relationship great and make me happy to be with him.

Dealing with Long-Distance
I've been in long-distance relationships before but this one is different. Maintaining the relationship hasn't been primarily dumped on just one person.
In fact, because I was starting my internship The Graduate has been great this week at checking in on me, including calling me before I started my first day and checking in after work. I LOVE this man.
And maybe that's the difference. This time I'm dealing with a man, not a boy.
I'm also doing my part to keep the relationship going. For instance every week he's getting a special delivery in the mail from me. Inside he gets special instructions for a certain activity and after we have to discuss it.
Unfortunately USPS wasn't on my side this week so I'm still waiting for him to get the package, but I've tried to combat that this week by sending his stuff on Saturday with the hopes it will get there by Friday of next week.
Additionally, as we're both increasing our knowledge with regard to our careers, we've decided to read a book together to help us become more loving Christians. Starting this week we'll read a chapter a week and then discuss it.
Finally, modern technology is also on our side. Last night we had our first skype session (which was full of grins on both our parts) and when we can't be on the phone, text messages are on our side.
Tonight just to be corny, I turned my TV to what he was watching so that we could have some semblance of doing the same thing together, even if we weren't in the same place.
He appreciates my mushiness and I his. We are a match made in Heaven. I just thank God for letting it happen.

Thank you God
I just have to give God some virtual thanks for providing me the love of my life. Yes, that's right the LOVE of my life. The graduate and I are still very much together and very much in love.
After eight months we've moved into a long-distance relationship until the end of the summer when I return but he's so deep within my heart, the only reason I know we're far apart is because I can't pick up and drive to see him whenever I want.
God has blessed me with a man who doesn't have it all together but is working hard to put things on track to God's pleasing. He leads us in prayer, he's back teaching at church and he genuinely cares not only about me but also the people who are important to me.
I couldn't have dreamed that my life would be this great with him, but we are both so happy we want to make sure we don't mess up anything to hinder God's plans for our relationship.
Thank you God for all the duds who came before him and for me never giving up hope and learning exactly when to let go so that I could have this wonderful gift you have given me. My cup runneth over.
